Why a Masticating Juicer Is Better Choice

juicing-tipsFor anyone who has been shopping lately looking to improve their diet by getting a juicer for their home, you will notice that their are two different types of machines available.  Those being centrifugal and masticating juice extractors.  While they both do have their strengths and weaknesses, for overall nutritional value and juice quality, you simply cannot beat a masticating model.  We won’t go into great detail about the differences between the two, both centrifugal and masticating juicers do offer users a chance to improve their overall well-being and nutritional intake.   But for those that want the highest quality juice possible, there is only one option that will give you what you want.

Why are Masticating Juicers Better?

They are not better in all aspects, but since our primary goal for getting our own juicer is to make highly nutritious juices from fresh produce, a masticating juicer is going to enable us to maximize this effort.  Below are some of the reasons these types of machines shine over centrifugal models in this regard.

Slower Speed Juicing

Centrifugal juicers spin cutting discs at extreme high speeds to get the job done.  The high RPM can do two things that can affect the quality of the juice.  It can heat up the juice, and it introduces more air into the juice.  Both of these factors causes the nutrients to break down at faster rates.  Now if you consume the juice right away, these effects may be minimal.  If you like to make a lot at once and store it for a few days, then a masticating juicer is the only way to achieve this.  More air also creates a frothier juice that can affect both the color and taste.

Masticating juicers operate at much slower RPM.  Where a typical centrifugal juicer can run in the thousands of RPM, a masticating juicer normally runs at around 80 RPM.  This means less air and heat build up.  Nutrients in the juice are protected and the juice will end up staying fresh for longer.  Less air means less oxidation and the juice can be stored in a refrigerator for a few days.  Another side benefit of juicing slower is that you have a very quiet juicer.  This is a real positive for anyone who does not like making a lot of noise.

Juice Yield

This is another important aspect.  When you are paying for fruits and vegetables you want to make sure that you are able to extract the most juice possible.  You do not want anything left behind as this would just be a waste.  Masticating juicers normally are much better at maximum juice extraction across a wide variety of different types of foods.  And if you are looking to juice a lot of leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, or wheatgrass, then your results will be a lot higher with a masticating model.  The best juicers for vegans is going to be a masticating machine since it can handle and produce higher juice yields than a centrifugal juicer.

While masticating juicers may require a higher initial investment, they are more economical over time because they waste very little.  The left over pulp tends to be very dry which is an indication that most of the juice was removed.  For the long haul, a masticator will provide greater benefits.

Are Centrifugal Juicers Bad?

On the contrary, these types of juicers are very capable of improving your health and diet.  We are not saying that a centrifugal juicer is bad, just that there may be an even better alternative to help you get the absolute highest quality juice available.  Centrifugal juicers often have a lot of great features which make them so appealing.  They are lighting fast, typically easy to use and clean, are less expensive, and they make juicing extremely convenient.  If you are on the fence about trying juicing and a centrifugal juicer sounds more appealing, then we would definitely recommend you get one.  Have any type of juicer is much better than not have one and you will certainly be able to see noticeable health benefits from using one.

Is Juicing Worth The Trouble?

Well we all know that we should be including more fruits and vegetables into our diet, but for some of us this is not only practical, it is not all that appealing.  It can take a lot of time during the day to munch on the amounts recommended and some vegetables just do not tempt the taste buds the way a nice hamburger does.  This is where having a home juicer can help.  You can get the recommended daily allowance down into one glass.  For those with hectic schedules nothing could be more convenient.  Today’s juicers are also designed to be quick to use as well as simple to clean, so the daily time investment is not that high.  Besides, with the endless amount of different recipes, it can also be a great way to treat yourself at the start or end of the day to something exotic tasting that is also good for you.  It is worth it because your health is worth it.
